Front gardens
One of my gardening passions. . .hosta.
The hosta have gone wild this year probably because we have had so much rain lately. I know this variety as Hosta fortunei "Patriot" and as of today most of these have a span of 40 inches. They are beautiful, but have smothered out all of the Dianthus that I had planted between each hosta last summer as well as several Heuchera (Coral Bells) planted behind them. I called my sister who is also a gardener and this fall we will be dividing all nine hosta. My guess is we will get at least four to five new starts off each plant. Who would have thought.

Near the front porch entry area: More Hosta fortunei "Patriot", Echinacea purpurea "Doppelganger" meaning double decker (I am still waiting to see the double!) and a Hemerocallis "Happy Returns" (daylily). In front of the picket, from seed I planted dwarf sunflowers which have germinated and are about three inches tall. When in full bloom this small garden will be red, pink, yellow and white.

In the washtub, I planted Dianthus "Ruby Tuesday", Dianthus "Garden Spice", mounding type red and white petunias, and a Dracaena indivisa "Spike" for height.
The front porch. I had initially thought that I would not plant anything in the wooden carpenters box that I had painted and distressed, but the whole collection of items appeared monochromatic.
So to brighten things up, I planted Leucanthemum "Snow Lady" Shasta Daisy for it's height, 10-12 inches, Calibrachoa "Coral Superbells", and Veronica Peduncularis "Georgia Blue Speedwell" which is a trailing perennial.
