Cardinal Greenway Trail

Over the weekend I took a leisurely walk at the Cardinal Greenway Trail in Jonesboro. The Cardinal Greenway was formerly an abandoned section of the CSX railway line covering five counties in Eastern Indiana (Wayne, Randolph, Henry, Delaware and Grant).

Trail head at SR22 / US35.
Trail map of Grant County.
This is a display that tells about the natural gas boom of 1887 in Indiana and how it affected Grant County, specifically Gas City.
A clump of river birch at the trail head.
I love the texture of birch trees.
There are bird boxes all along the trail.
This may be wild phlox, but I'm not positive. We see it mostly along country roads and wooded areas.
Heading south on the trail.
Looking down at the Mississinewa River.
Abandoned marker from railway days.
This pedestrian foot bridge crosses the Mississinewa River.
Mississinewa River looking north.
Mississinewa River looking south.
On the Gas City side of the river after crossing the foot bridge.
One of my favorite pictures of the day. . .reflections.
This is just a pylon from the pedestrian foot bridge. The orange lines are flood markers. The section of the river crested at 14 feet above flood stage in February of this year when we had a significant amount of rain.
I love to walk my pugs along the Cardinal Greenway, but it was too hot and humid over the weekend to take them out and about. This is a picture of Daisy from November 1st of last fall. There was something about the rock that Daisy didn't like. We went back to it three different times so she could bark at it.

Well my goodness, that IS INDEED one scary rock. Annie sends brave woofs and support against that scary rock to her Cousin Daisy. What on earth would you do without Daisy to protect you from these scary rocks?
