Butterflies, Bees and Golden Privet

Every summer at this time, my Golden Privet is alive with the activity of butterflies and hundreds of bees.

I have never studied bees or their hierarchy, but the smaller bees were at the lower half of the Golden Privet while these large bees were at the top half. (if that is related to bee hierarchy)

Ligustrum 'Vicaryi' (Golden Privet)

-Hardiness Zones: 5 to 9
-Habit: Deciduous in Indiana
-Site Requirements: Sun; range of soil types including drought tolerant. My Golden Privet is planted on the south side of house.
-Height: 10 to 12 feet
-Form: Normally vase-shaped to oval round; mine. . .well lets just say I let it grow wild at this time of the year. I do give it a good pruning in the fall.
-Flower: Creamy white flowers on pyramidal panicles; unpleasant odor. (Unpleasant describes it mildly)

How interesting that the bees love the smelly plant so much... Cathy, do the puggies react to the smell at all?

Isn't it wonderful to see the bees and butterfies so busy? I am so tickled to see so many. Your Golden Privet is beautiful!

While I'm not a Privet fan, I'd make an exception for the Golden Privet. All those butterflies & bees surely make up for the scent.

The same butterfly and bee just as a picture of your blog also come to my garden in Japan.
