New blooms ~ Week of 7/13/08

Abutilon "Bella Mix" Flowering Maple. It is commonly known as: Indian Mallow or Parlor Maple. It is an annual in Indiana, but a perennial in other zones. Height is about 16 inches with 3 inch flowers. Since the Abutilon was a new plant for me this year, I only purchased one, but next year I will probably get three so that it will be nice and bushy. (Purchased at 3 P's Garden Shop in Fairmount)
Back side with another bud getting ready to bloom.
The bugs have obviously enjoyed eating the leaves.
Agastache "Blue Fortune" Mexican Hyssop.
Asclepias tuberosa "Butterfly Weed". I just purchased this during the week and it is relatively weak due to being root bound in the pot. Plus it was actually too hot to plant being in the 90s. Hopefully with a little TLC it will survive.

Heuchera (Coral Bells) "Palace Purple".
The Heuchera "Melting Fire" (above) and Heuchera "Silver Scrolls" are not blooming, but I wanted to include pictures anyway. They were just planted in early June so I'm not sure if they will flower this year or not.

Daylily, variety unknown
More honey bees.
Tettigoniidae commonly known as a Katydid.
The Japanese Beetle have arrived with a vengance and in weeks time have already started to skeletonize the Purple Leaf Sand Cherry (Prunus Cistena) tree and shrubs of which I have five.
Japanese Beetle FAQs (from internet sites): (Popillia japonica), an insect that is a major pest and belongs to the subfamily Rutelinae (family Scarabaeidae, order Coleoptera). It was accidentally introduced into the United States from Japan about 1916, probably as larvae in the soil around imported plants. Japanese beetles are known to feed on more than 300 species of plants, including a wide variety of trees, shrubs, grasses, and nursery plants.

There's so much going on in your garden Cathy! Where do I start?

LOVE the flowering Maple (or anything in Pink!). I don't think I've ever seen one before.

How is the Butterfly Weed holding up? It's been in the 90's here too, including today, but it should cool down this coming week. The plants don't seem to like it that hot.

Coral Bells . . . I have them too. Not a very impressive flower but their color looks good in the garden, not to mention easy maintanance.

Japanese Beetles! Hate them! They almost desecrated my White Petunia's! Lastly, I think my Cone Flowers are making a comeback! Yippee!
