New blooms, bees and butterflies ~ Week of 7/7/08

Perovskia atriplicifolia, commonly known as "Russian Sage". My Russian Sage is at least four years old and has a size of about five feet wide and five feet tall.
The Russian Sage was full of honey bees.

Purple Liatris spicata. Also know as Blazing Star or Kobold Gayfeather.

Rudbeckia fulgida "Black-eyed Susan". Also known as Brilliant Coneflower, Eastern Coneflower, or Orange Coneflower in other regions.

Hemerocallis "Purple d'Oro". Notice the little insect just left of center.
Probably a painted lady butterfly.
These are not new blooms, but I like the combination of pink and orange.

Cathy,

The purple Lily is just gorgeous! And your Cone Flowers look great! I transplanted mine a few weeks ago and they've let me know they are NOT happy about it. I'll miss the beautiful butterlies they attract.

Cathy, I always wondered what that purple plant was - now I know - gayfeather! what a great name, too. How are the puggies doing? Howie, Annie and Java send their love...
